International Calling
UberSmartPhone (USP) supports international calling to over 50 countries. For non-North American telephone numbers, prefix with “011” when dialing.
Calling Outside North America
Out-of-the-box Twilio accounts will only call USA and Canadian numbers. If you wish to use international calling then it is necessary to turn-on the specific country(s) using the geo-settings in the Twilio account.
Enable Calling Another Country
From the Twilio Console select “Programmable Voice” (Phone icon on the left hand side). Then click “Settings”. Then click “Geo Permissions”. Click the check box next to the subject country to enable calling to that location.
Note that there are different rates for international calling than for calling within North America. Click on the “List of Countries” we support of the Geo Permission page to get the details.
Text Message Support
At the time of this writing, SMS (text messages) support varies from country to country. Some places do not allow SMS from outside the subject country. Others can receive international SMS messages, but cannot send them back to North America. MMS (with pictures) only works in the USA and Canada.
